28 Great Years

A little over a month ago I was busy having a "Why-me-pity-party". I like to throw those on occasion, but this one seemed to be pretty intense. Anyway...I needed to get out of it, and fast. The phrase that kept coming to mind was "Forget yourself and go to work." So I did. I decided that during the month of June, my birthday month, I'd try to give a little back...

"Volunteering" at the North Carolina State Special Olympics
by volunteering I mean...dancing with friends!!

Helping out at the Ronald McDonald House of Durham
I helped cook dinner!

Helping save the ta-ta's by walking
in Race for the Cure...
...me in all my get up!

Helping out at Second Chance Kitty Adoptions
I got to feed and play with the kitties!!

Rock-a-bye-ing and singing
to my dear friend's sweet baby
while he's in the hospital.

Giving blood!
O+ saves the world!

Babysitting some pretty awesome boys for some good friends.
(I just plum forgot to take any pictures)

So I got started. Then halfway through the month, through her talk in church, another friend reminded me of what I was really trying to do... of who I really was trying to connect to. Throughout Christ's life he was persecuted, left alone, and had every excuse to give up. But he didn't. Even in his final moments, He reached out to others by promising one of the thieves next to him that he would with with Him in paradise. We must keep going. We must reach out. We must give back.

I may miss my family, I may want nothing more than to travel the world with an experienced guide, I may be so exhausted at the end of the day all I can do is cry, I may worry about things that are out of my control... but at that end of the day...I've had a wonderful 28 years. So thanks to all who remind me of that each and every day! I truly am one blessed little girl and it's been the happiest of birthdays yet!

Car noises

I've never been great at 'making noises.' I really do think it's something that's innately wired into boys and thus, I never got the hang of making car, airplane, or tractor noises... Until now. This commercial reminded me that I can now make the noise my car makes....
video
I laugh so hard every time I see it!!

9 Weeks Old

My garden is now 9 weeks old! Ah...isn't it cute how it's growing??
I even picked some of my very own green beans and, along with some other beans from D4's farmer's market trip, steamed some for dinner on Friday!! I feel so self-reliant... with all ten of my beans.

Happy Father's Day!

When I look at you,
I see a man of character -
Someone who trusts his instincts,
who stays true to himself,
and who respects the opinions of others...
When I look at you,
I see a man of pride -
Someone whom I admire,
and who holds a very special place in my heart.

Thinking about you today,
I realize not only
how much you mean to me,
But how proud I feel
every time I have the chance
to tell someone
"That's my dad."

Random Thoughts II

1. Back at Christmas I proposed to the family that we do the "Family Book Challenge" which is that we each read nine books in nine categories in 2009. Most people said that would be a cool challenge and we even made a blog

Since that exciting moment  of accepting the challenge...
a) My mom, older sister, brother-in-law and I are the only ones who have posted.
b) Said older sister finished. It's not even half way through the year and she's read over 81 books. That's annoying.

2. Have you ever clicked the "Next Blog" link up at the top?? I just discovered it can be very interesting.

3. I'm turning into my mother - I just folded, yes folded, a plastic bag.

Random Thoughts

1) Notice how my list of "People I Love" kind of looks like a bell curve on its side? Weird!

2) I just added a friend from college's blog - Brit Pfister. Ironically, it was her mother that taught me all about bell curves. Awesome!

3) Durham is in the middle of a huge scary thunderstorm. Wild!
